How can anyone possibly put Marshall Taylor in the same category as Merckx or Coppi? True, Taylor was gifted and was held back from performing due to his race, but was he really top tier? Is this just a sympathy vote to make people feel better about themselves and champion political correctness due to the lack of African-Americans in our beloved sport? Thoughts? I'm willing to listen to his defenders.

Lance doesn't make the top 5. Hinault should be on there, as should be the late great Beryl Burton. She had the misfortune of being a woman in England in the wrong era.
Froze says: "...but he never won any of the European Classics, nor the World Championship, couldn’t even pull off a win for the Olympics"

When ranting, you should fact-check before submitting.

While LA won most of his races in stage races, both as overalls and individual stages, he does include the following in his palmares:

1993 World Championship
1993 US Championship
1995 Clásica de San Sebastián
1996 La Flèche Wallonne
1998 Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt
2000 GP des Nations
2000 GP Eddy Merckx

I think the order is very interesting, I'm not sure why Lance Armstrong placed second since the only race he ever won at was the TDF howbeit 7 times, but he never won any of the European Classics, nor the World Championship, couldn't even pull off a win for the Olympics. Personally I think Bernard Hinault should have gotten the nod for second and Lance Armstrong should not be anywhere on that last list.

To bad the cycling world doesn't do something special for Marshall Major Taylor, like find his unmarked grave site and put a special marker over it. An unmarked gravesite? what a disgrace.
