True, Taylor was gifted and was held back from performing due to his race, but was he really top tier? Is this just a sympathy vote to make people feel better about themselves and champion political correctness due to the lack of African-Americans in our beloved sport? Thoughts? I’m willing to listen to his defenders.

Hinault should be on there, as should be the late great Beryl Burton. She had the misfortune of being a woman in England in the wrong era. Never heard of her? Look her up. The go out and ride 277.52 miles in 12 hours. Beryl Burton did it in 1967.

Personally I think Bernard Hinault should have gotten the nod for second and Lance Armstrong should not be anywhere on that last list.

To bad the cycling world doesn’t do something special for Marshall Major Taylor, like find his unmarked grave site and put a special marker over it. An unmarked gravesite? what a disgrace.
