Tom: Amazingly everything Andy said about you is true! I have enjoyed being your colleague at various conferences and always applauded your level-headed optimism as well as setting the model for bike commuting among state bike-ped coordinators. Best wishes in your new venture.

Tom has been my best practices consultant since I came on as the Arkansas Bike Ped Coordinator. Tom always has something worthwhile to share on a topic because he has been there and done more than most to make a state bicycle friendly. But, you may have to coax a comment out of him if he thinks that someone else is the expert. When you call that person, they always seem flattered that Tom told you to call them and they give you the same answer that Tom offered as a likely solution.
Jennefer should make a fine book of business just having Tom answer questions "with the meter running"--ha. Enjoy your summer off and talk to you in the fall. Bud Laumer, AICP, LCI

As a fellow ancient one, I have to say we depend so much on the collective wisdom (and wit) of the folks like Tom who have been leaders in this game from its beginnings. I hope Tom was able to groom a successor able to step into his considerable shoes, and best of luck to him in his "retirement" as a consultant!

I've served with Tom on several committees and panels, most recently developing the new edition of the AASHTO Bike Guide. A great guy and a good friend.

All our best to Tom in his future endeavors - and Tom, even after making the jump to consulting, don't forget your friends at the state DOTs! :)
