Looked like the offending vehicle first recklessly passed the white car, then tried to pass the bus on the right when the bus moved into the left lane to give room to the cyclist.

Great news that this guy didn’t get away. I wish more people made an effort to stop offending vehicles and that law enforcement would issue appropriate penalties.

How about unsafe passing, hit and run, and unsafe lane change? All adding up to a potential careless or reckless charge.

He passed the silver car, saw the bus moving to the left lane (to avoid the cyclist) and went to pass the bus on the right (not knowing the cyclist was in the lane). In his haste, he hit the cyclist.

The “hit” wasn’t intentional but the “run” was. Very poor judgement for someone entrusted with controlling a 3500 lb moving object. Hope his license is revoked for a few years to give him time to think about what he did wrong. He’s very lucky the cyclist only received minor injuries. Doubt he’ll see jail time.

His lane change to the left lane was rapid and I have no doubt his lane change back to the right lane just as reckless.

He probably saw the cyclist as the last minute slowed, got impatient and bump the cyclist.

For me the safe passing law was not even the issue here. Leaving the scene of an accident was the most agregious violation of this motorist.

There was no attempt to move to the next lane until after the cyclist was hit.

This was an intentional crime! and I’m grateful that there are laws to enforce in this circumstance, giving me hope for the future of safe cycling.
