I was hoping someone would step up with bicycles for those poor New Yorkers. Never having lived through a flood, I can only imagine how horrible daily life is in a modern city without modern conveniences. I wish I could be there to help get those citizens on bicycles so they can get where they need to go. It would be great if bicycling took off and became a more utilized form of transportation because of this situation. Way to go Recycle and Bicycle. I'm going to contribute money too. Soon as I get my next pay check.

• It is truly amazing. From distribution centers in Brooklyn, bike messengers are a lifeline to Red Hook, and Time's Up! has organized caravans of cargo bikes and bikes with trailers to get out to the Rockaways. Time's Up! also has electricity-generating bikes to recharge cellphones (and, originally, to empty a flooded basement with a water pump). There are additional efforts led by bike shops and ad hoc groups of bicyclists.

Staten Island was also hit hard, though a bicycle lifeline is difficult across the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge (which has a bike path that was never opened to the public).

Finally. I was hoping the league would have more on this by now. Better late than never.

Yesterday, I resorted to about a dozen other news agencies to get the latest poop on the functionality of bicycles on display in NY.
